Steamboat Springs — The Steamboat Springs City Council will hear an appeal about constructing a 20-foot gas station and fast food company sign.
The owners of a recently approved fast food and gas station site on U.S. 40, next to Curve Market & Deli, want to place a 20-foot high, two-sided sign in front of the property.
The City of Steamboat Springs' sign code states that only one sign that size can exist on a commercial development.
One sign already exists on the property.
Gilstrap Enterprises Inc. was denied a variance by the Steamboat Springs Board of Adjustments on Sept. 19 to place the 20-foot tall gas station sign in front of the new structure.
The company's owner, Kelly Gilstrap, said the sign would allow the gas station and fast food restaurant to be competitive with similar businesses in town.
Gilstrap is now appealing that decision to the City Council.
The meeting starts at 4:45 p.m., Tuesday, at Centennial Hall.
Other business will include:
n A joint meeting with the Rout County Board of Commissioners to hear a report from the two-plus housing committee.
n A resolution about the appointment of the 2002-03 contribution committee.
n A resolution accepting water and sewer mains for Copper Mountain Estates, phases one, two and three.
